My husband, (Marvin) and I joined Mike’s Gym in March
2006. When meeting with Mike he asked us what goals we had.
I wanted to be more toned and have muscle definition. Marvin
wanted to lose weight and become healthy.
Mike described his system to us and explained how we could
achieve our goals. His system included specialized cardio
routines along with easy instructions, written on one page,
listing foods that we should eat and foods that we should
avoid. We told him that we also wanted to incorporate weight
lifting into our program, so he created weight routines for
each of us. He said if we followed his plan, we would be successful.
His plan was simple and amazing.
He gave us (Resting Metabolic Rate) RMR tests to determine
the number of calories required by our bodies, per day, if
we were at rest and had no activity. He increased this figure
to provide enough energy to power us through the workouts
he created. Mike said if we followed his plan we would be
able to lose between ¼ pound to 1 ½ pounds per
week. We found this to be true.
Most people are impatient and want to see huge changes to
their weight right away but it is healthier to lose weight
slowly. Our weight loss began the very first week of the program
with us both losing 1 and 1/2 pounds. We have recorded our
weight loss each week thereafter. Marvin has currently lost
60 pounds and I have lost a total of 25 pounds. His weight
loss has remained pretty consistent and he is still losing.
I am to the point I am maintaining this weight because I do
not want to drop any more.
We were instructed to eat 5 times per day which Mike says
increases your metabolism. The most amazing part of Mike's
system is that we ate more food on this plan than we ever
did before, yet we continued to lose weight. I actually talked
to Mike the first week we began this program because I was
having trouble eating the amount of food he said I needed.
I felt like I was force feeding myself. He urged me to stick
with it, which I did. We never felt like we were on a diet
because we ate so much and so frequently. People on diets
complain that they are hungry all the time. For us this was
not a diet but a healthy way to eat.
Counting calories was a brand new concept to us which took
a couple weeks to get used to. We bought a food scale to take
the guess work out of it. We also kept a calculator, pad and
a pen on the kitchen counter to add up our food as we added
it to our plates. We found that cooking bulk quantities of
food on Sunday such as meats, rice, sweet or regular potatoes,
and vegetables saved time, so on weeknights after our workouts,
food was ready and could be warmed up. Packing our lunch each
evening along with two other meals to take to work has become
part of our normal routine now.
I honestly feel if anyone gives this program a 2 week trial
they will be amazed at the changes they will begin to see
and they will want to continue.
We followed Mike's instructions wholeheartedly and with true
dedication. It sounds odd to say, but we actually look forward
to our workouts at the gym and our outside activities (walking,
hill repeats, and biking). We thank Mike so much for assisting
us in gaining a healthy lifestyle.
